In Your FACES, Magazine

Last Friday was the Faces Magazine Awards party, where everyone got together at the posh Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata, enjoyed a few signature cocktails (so tasty), and awaited the results of the awards.

I felt that I looked quite posh myself, and my husband cleaned up pretty nicely himself.

The event was definitely more party than award show, which was both a relief and a step outside my norm. I tend to hermit. I was never much of a clubber back in the days of my youth (I’ve been 80 since I was 12), or even much of a barfly, so to go out and have a few drinks and chat with strangers while what sounds like Big Shiny Tunes 3 through 6 is blasting through the stereo system was a shock to the senses.

But it was worth it and so much fun!

We had an opportunity to chat with people who were up for things like Volunteer of the Year (he won), Favourite Dancer (she won), Favourite Designer, Favourite Stylist, and so many others.

Ottawa is filled with people doing great things, and at least we have events like this to bring that to light.

I did not end up winning for Favourite Author, but that is more than all right. For those of you who braved that website to vote for me (especially if you did so more than once), you have my deepest gratitude. You were the folks who made me feel like I was at least in good standing to the competition and gave my pride a solid boost. In the end, though, it came down to an ex-major hockey league player, and in a city like Ottawa… well, hockey runs in the veins of most people here.

Didn’t bother me a jot (actually actually). I made new connections, hubs reconnected with some old friends (and I made new ones), and we had a great excuse to dress up and go out, and as far as I’m concerned it was a total success.

So now that it’s over, it’s back to the regular routine. No parties. No dress-up… oh wait!

I took some time this weekend to get some new author photos taken. If you’re in my reader group on Facebook or are one of my Patreon patrons, then you already have the link to vote on which one will grace my new website design (yep, she’s changing again!). Otherwise, be sure you’re signed up for my mailing list, because the poll will go out in the Feb 1 newsletter.

In between, I’m working on Dreamfire revisions, starting to mull over Book 3 plots and subplots, and still waiting for news about the grant for Obscure.
