Meet Kobo Plus

Have you heard of Kobo Plus before?

If you haven’t, you’ve likely heard of their famous cousin, KindleUnlimited, which is Amazon’s monthly subscription service.

Maybe you didn’t realize that Kobo has created their own. It’s been around for over a year now, and every month, lots of new books are being added to the platform.

Pretty much my entire bibiography is available there (with the exception of my romantasies, but we’ll get to that).

How does it work?

For one price, you get to download a whole bunch of books.

The cost runs around $9.99CAD/month or $12.99CAD if you want to include audiobooks in your subscription.

So let’s play with the math. Let’s say an average (indie) ebook runs around $5.99. That would mean that for the cost of two books, you can read as many as you want…

AND THE AUTHOR STILL GETS PAID.

Pretty sweet, right?

The deal is even better if you consider that a trad pub ebook can run you around $11.99.

Why am I talking about this?

1) because I love any platform that gives Amazon a run for its money. It has held the monopoly on subscriptions for a LONG time, but its exclusivity practice for KindleUnlimited means authors have to choose between being all in with Amazon or not having access to it. For the most part, I choose not to have access

2) because this coming weekend (Feb 20-22), I’m part of YOLO with Kobo, a promotion where a bunch of romance titles have been curated and laid out for your easy browsing pleasure. Sure Valentine’s Day might be over, but there’s never a bad time to cozy up with a good love story, am I right?

3) because I like being on Kobo, but right now, most of the romantasy readers are over on Amazon/KindleUnlimited, and I would love for that to change so I can make my romantasies available in Kobo Plus as well!

So if you want to check it out and thumb your nose at Amazon, do it!
